SpaceProtect for Hosts
An explanation of SpacetoCo's Space and Host protection measures.
This article is for Hosts looking to collect security bonds or process claims for booking issues.
SpaceProtect replaces traditional cash bond deposits. It reduces the administrative work of collecting, holding, and returning security funds.
There are two options for managing Hirer bonds: Pre-Event and Post-Event.
Pre-Event SpaceProtect
SpacetoCo places a temporary hold on the Hirer's card 3 to 4 days prior to the booking. This works similarly to a hotel security deposit hold.
- Hold attempt
SpacetoCo attempts to hold the required funds 4 days before the booking at 2:00 pm local time. If the attempt fails, SpacetoCo notifies the Host and Hirer and retries 24 hours later. If a third attempt fails, SpacetoCo assists both parties to find a resolution. - Submitting a claim
Once the booking ends, the Host has 3 days to submit a claim. Learn how to submit a SpaceProtect claim - Automatic release
If no claim is made, the hold is released automatically 3 days after the booking at 2:00 pm local time.
Note: A Pre-Event hold releases at 2:00 pm local time 3 days after the booking ends. Once the hold is released, a claim can no longer be submitted.

Post-Event SpaceProtect
For low-risk bookings, funds can be captured after an event occurs. SpacetoCo's payment processors (Stripe and GoCardless) maintain encrypted payment details that can be charged if a valid claim is submitted after a booking.
- Locate the booking
Find the booking in your Host dashboard and scroll to the SpaceProtect card. - Submit the claim
Submit the claim with supporting evidence for review by the SpacetoCo team. Learn about requirements for making a SpaceProtect claim - Receive payout
If the claim is approved, the collected funds are transferred to the Host during the next payout cycle.
Note: Post-Event collections carry risks if the Hirer's payment method has expired or contains insufficient funds.

Releasing a Bond Hold Early
To release a bond hold sooner than 3 days after a booking ends:
- Open the booking in your Host dashboard.
- Navigate to the SpaceProtect section.
- Select Release or Release Early.
Once released, the hold is removed from the Hirer's card statement. Replaced holds or refunded claims can take 5 to 10 business days to clear, depending on the card issuer. Contact info@spacetoco.com if you require assistance.
Delaying Pre-Event Holds
Hosts can delay the initial pre-event hold attempt by 1 or 2 days for long weekends or extended bookings:
- Open the booking in your Host dashboard.
- Navigate to the SpaceProtect section and click the delay icon.

- You'll then be able to shift the bond hold by 1 or 2 days:

This works for any new or existing Pre-Event SpaceProtect Bond that you've already set for the future.
