Booking Categories
How Hosts can configure Space categories to improve search discovery and booking reporting
This article is for Hosts who want to set up or manage Booking Categories on their Spaces.
Booking Categories allow Customers to select the activity type during checkout. Categories help Customers discover relevant Spaces on the marketplace and provide Hosts with clearer data on Space usage.
How Booking Categories Work
When enabled on a Space, Booking Categories appear during the checkout experience for both Casual Bookings and Regular Bookings.
Category icons display on your Space page and across booking management screens in your dashboard.

Once enabled, these booking categories will appear as part of the booking experience for both casual and regular bookings:
How to Set Up Booking Categories
- Go to Spaces Management in your dashboard and select the space you wish to edit.
- Click Booking Category in the side menu.
- Select the Booking Categories applicable to your Space.
- Click Save changes.
Note: You can also update categories across multiple Spaces simultaneously using the Bulk Edit tool.
Categories and Search Strategy
Marketplace categories use broader activity groupings so Customers can discover matching venues. For example, searches for choir, music, or comedy spaces point to listings under the Performance category.
If you require a category that is not listed, contact SpacetoCo support for guidance on how your activity fits into the marketplace search strategy.
Special Settings and Single-Use Spaces
The 'Other' Category Option
By default, the Other option is enabled so Customers can enter a custom activity if their specific reason for hire is not listed. You can disable this option in your Space settings.
Spaces with More Than 12 Categories
If a Space has more than 12 categories selected, the checkout interface converts the selection into a dropdown menu for better usability on mobile devices.
Single-Use Spaces
For single-purpose facilities (such as a tennis court), you can streamline checkout by hiding the category selection step:
- Select only 1 category (e.g., Tennis).
- Disable the Other category option.
- Disable the Booking reason field.
When configured this way, both the category selection step and the booking reason field are hidden from the Customer during checkout, and bookings are automatically assigned to that single category.
